    Covington was originally established in 1813 by John Wharton Collins and named Wharton. The city was later renamed for a war hero of the war of 1812, General Leonard Covington. Covington is the Parish Seat of St. Tammany Parish. The City is conveniently located to its surrounding communities and it is nestled among three rivers. Besides holding the Parish Courts it also home to vast infrastructure including St Tammany Parish Hospital along with other top notch medical facilities.

The Trailhead in Covington is the beginning of the Tammany Trace which is a 31 mile paved path that connects Mandeville, Abita Springs, Slidell, Lacombe and Covington.
